Dharmarthakamebhyo Namah
Decency, realty, and love-obeisance to all of them.
India is the origin of embracing physicality and persuasion of sexual satisfaction. It says these two are essential to balance one’s life.
Purusharthas (पुरुषार्थ): Made from two words purush (पुरुष) + arth (अर्थ), purushartha is the 3000-year-old concept that tells a man how to live his life to the fullest and gives one the opportunities to live his life with morals and ethics.
Purushartha is divided into four categories:
- Dharma (धर्म)
- Kama (काम)
- Artha (अर्थ)
- Moksha (मोक्ष)
Dharma tells us about one’s true purpose in life, affairs with duties, and actions taken by the person. Every sanatani believes that each of us has our own personal dharma, which leads us to live a morally right life filled with good karma.
Kama Now, I’ve seen lots of people getting confused between Karma and Kama. Karma is a law that says what goes around comes back around, maybe not right now but later. And Kama is a Sanskrit word that means love, desire, and pleasure. While aiming to achieve pleasure in life one can start activities in their daily life or take interest in cultural acts, but kama is also driven by sexual pleasure. Hence, it is important for us in our personal lives. The act of sexual pleasure can be both a natural part of human instinct and an act to produce children.
Artha means prosperity, the persuasion of wealth. Attaining material wealth is necessary for all of us. Having status and fulfilling material aims are important but getting attached to this wealth is not what purushartha teaches us.
Moksha is the biggest aim of a sanatani’s life. Achieving moksha helps one to break the cycle of life (samsara) by gaining good karma throughout their life. The good karma of not just their Mortal life currently but from their previous lives too.
